ONE OF WIC’S MOST IMPORTANT ROLES is to promote, support and protect breastfeeding for the mothers and babies we serve!  While you’re pregnant and after your baby is born, you can meet with a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor or Nutritionist at WIC. This is a good chance to talk with an expert who can answer your questions and give advice. Let WIC’s breastfeeding experts support you every step of the way.

Breastfeeding Promotion and Support in WIC Includes:

  • Breast Feeding guidance, counseling, and educational materials
  • A greater quantity and variety of foods
  • Longer participation in the Program
  • Breastfeeding supplies including breast pumps/or referrals
  • Professional staff, including Certified Lactation Counselors, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants & Breastfeeding Peer Counselors
  • Tips on how to Store and Prepare Breast Milk English or Spanish

Peer Counselor-Mother-To-Mother Program

A WIC Peer Counselor is a mom like you who breastfed her baby and is here to help you and your baby. Peer Counselors have completed in-depth training and many are Certified Lactation Counselors. Remember... WIC supports breastfeeding as the optimal infant feeding choice. If you choose to breastfeed your infant, get as much help as you can from the hospital. After you are discharged, WIC is here to help! Just ask us and we can connect you with one of our Certified Lactation Counselors. Peer Counselors are available by phone, text, or e-mail. You can call one of our breastfeeding warmlines to get started:
